Mentor Spotlight: Miss Shelly

This week’s Mentor Spotlight is all about our talented instructor, Miss Shelly! Read to find out more about Shelly and discover what inspires her.

Q: How long have you worked for the Academy of Beauty Professionals?
A: My 3 year anniversary was just on the 4th of May.

Q: Where did you get your beauty education?
A: I went to Gill Tech when it was in downtown Appleton.

Q: How did you become interested in beauty?
A: My dad wanted me to go to art school, however, I was afraid I would hate it, so after working a year in a toy factory 3rd shift going nowhere – I thought where can I be artsy and help people naturally? I chose cosmetology. It allows me to be creative and inspire people.

Q: What is the best part of your job as an ABP educator?
A: I like to share what I know, watching students learn and grow, helping them reach their goals and dreams. Coaching them to be the best version of themselves. None of us are good at everything, but hard work and dedication will make room for improvement.

Q: What is your favorite service to perform and why?
A: I love to color, the transformation is exciting for you and your client. I do like facials they are relaxing for you and the client as well. Having someone glow and smile because of something you did for them is a great feeling.

Q:  What is your favorite movie?
A: Really so many – I love movies that make me laugh and action movies as well.

Q: If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
A: Oh my grandma, I miss her dearly. She was so funny and always positive no matter what. She was a strong woman. Overall, she was just great to be around and escape from the outside world. When I was with her it was like my worries were gone :).

Q: Tell us something else we wouldn’t know about you?
A: Well, I have a hard time talking about myself unless I know you. I am not much for being the center of attention:). Also, I am excited about being a grandma!
