by wearing face masks for long periods of time, we may see conditions such as acne Mechanica.

Acne Mechanica is a form of acne caused by friction, heat, pressure, and lack of circulation. By continuously wearing a face mask for extended periods of time, we are now creating the perfect environment for acne to harbor bacteria due to sweltering conditions under the mask.

so how can we treat this?

Wash your face as soon as you get home with facial cleansers containing ingredients such as salicylic acid, azeleic acid, fulvic acid, or manuka honey. You may also use hydrocolloid patches on a blemish under your mask as well. If you do break out, avoid picking at your breakouts! Picking the skin causes scarring and it’s easier for bacteria to spread – use ice  or cold compress instead!

other tips

  • Avoid wearing makeup under your mask.
  • Consider using a hyrdrating moisturizer to create a barrier.
  • Wash your mask daily.
  • Disinfect your mask with 70% isopropyl alchol.
  • Don’t forget to use sunscreen containing zinc oxide!
