Axiom #6 – Don’t be a judge

Axiom #6 – Don’t be a judge. We are not Gatekeepers to the beauty industry.

Everyone’s differences make this world unique. How boring would it be if we all liked the exact same things, had the exact same hair and makeup, and dressed the same? Too often we forget how fun it is that no 2 people in this world are the same.

Working in the beauty industry we have to remember that these differences make our jobs fun. You would be so bored if every client wanted the same makeup, same hairstyle, and the same nail design. As future cosmetologists, nail technicians, and estheticians, we have to remember that we do not dictate what beautiful is, but rather, we must enhance each individual’s beauty and encourage individuality. This principle can be applied in a beauty career as well as a life-skill. Always remember the golden rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. Judge not unless you wish to be judged.

In the world we live in today, there are always judgements flying around. Whether it is in our conversations with others, on social media, or on the news, it is hard to get away from. If you are wanting to make a change to be more positive, here are a few ideas to start with:

1.       Monitor your thoughts. Focus more about what you are thinking about. Are you thinking about new ideas, your goals, and focusing on yourself? Or are you thinking about other people in a negative way? Just being aware of your thoughts is a great start!

2.       Be Positive! Instead of searching for negatives in others, look at the positives and what makes that individual unique.

3.       Don’t judge yourself. The more we judge ourselves, the more we will tend to judge others. Again, focus more on the positive!

4.       Remember how it feels. At some point or another we have been judged by someone else. Remember how that made you feel. You would never want another person to feel that way.

These 4 steps are a nice start to becoming a more positive person and seeing the world with an open-mind!
